Put Away Money for iPhone 2.0
Instead of an iPhone now, how about deposting your $500 (or $600) into an online savings account. If you go with ING and use the $25 signup offer by the time iPhone 2.0 comes out you’ll have enough money for the phone and some iTunes as well. Current rate on an ING savings account: 4.5%

Instead of an iPhone how about one month’s rent in the state of Washington?
"Water/sewer/garbage/basic cable paid" but "No pets". Sorry.
iPhone 4 Gb: $500, 8 Gb: $600. Washington Apt in un-checked-out part of town: $495. You could swing one goat with the extra money, but they don’t allow pets anyway.

This was Supposed to be a Joke Post but… Treo 680
So I was surfing around and figured I’d jokingly post one of the older model Treos as an Instead of an iPhone post… but holy cow, this thing is less than $50 with a contract!
If you’ve never had a smartphone before I seriously recommend this deal Treo 680
If you have had a smartphone I’d look at a later model Treo (755p or even the Windows versions) but heck, at this price why not try this one out and then go for an upgrade later if it really doesn’t work out? You could then sell this one on eBay or give it as a gift.
iPhone 4Gb: $500, 8Gb: $600. Treo 680: $50 or even possibly -$25 with the rebate. That’d be one Treo for you and up to 11 goats for others; or maybe even one Treo and one HUGE LOT of resin for you, and one goat for someone else.
